Reminder of ragwort’s risks to livestock

Councillor Colin Barker, the council’s lead on environmental matters, said: “Under the Weeds Act 1959, it is an offence to leave ragwort in or next to any field intended for grazing or hay making or to allow it to seed or spread onto any adjacent land used for grazing or hay making.  If your neighbours use land for grazing or hay making, they could take legal action against you if you let ragwort flower and seed on your property.”
